Wedding portrait of Frank J. Allmaras and Hermina Beitel. They were married in New Rockford, North Dakota, July 23, 1906. Hermina was also known as "Mina" or "Minnie". Thank you to Noel Evans for providing us with the date and place of their wedding. Noel is a grandchild of Frank and Minnie.
Roughly the bottom one third of the photo is darkened, due to smoke damage from the house fire that occurred where the trunk holding the photos was stored. The studio stamp is Belgum Studio in New Rockford, North Dakota. The original photo is 3.75"x5.5", mounted on 6"x8" matboard.

Wedding Party portrait from Frank J. Allmaras and Hermina Beitel's wedding. Frank and Minnie are seated, and the witnesses behind them are Elizabeth Allmaras and Frank B. Allmaras, cousins of the groom. (Identified by Noel Evans.)
Frank's family had settled in North Dakota, and Minnie's family at this time was still all in Nebraska. According to my Aunt Betty Silbernagel, niece of Minnie, they met through an ad in the paper. Frank was searching for a young woman to help him in his bakery. My Grandfather, Alois Beitel - a widower with a small child (my Aunt Marie), had recently married my Grandmother Cecilia. In fact, Minnie had been a witness for Alois and Cecilia's wedding. Minnie had been staying with Alois to help take care of Marie, but with Grandma in the picture, Minnie was no longer needed and answered Frank's ad.
Photo taken by Belgum Studio in New Rockford, North Dakota. Original photo is 3"x4" oval mounted on 5"x7" matboard. Some smoke damage evident on bottom left corner.

Someone wrote "Mr. & Mrs. Allmaras' wedding cake" on the back of this photo. This was Frank and Minnie's wedding cake back in 1906. Being a baker, Frank baked this cake for Minnie himself, according to their granddaughter, Noel Evans. He graduated from a bakery school in Philadelphia, PA, as a youth. Pretty good decorating job!

A small bakery, apparently called the N.Y. Bakery, owned by Frank Allmaras (building on right). There was nothing written on the photo, but Noel Evans said that this was a bakery Frank owned in New Rockford, ND. His first bakery was in Philadelphia, PA, at 2032 E. Dauhin St. It was still standing as of 2005 but this building no longer exists.
Original photo is 5"x7", mounted on 8"x10" matboard. There are no studio marks.

There was nothing written on this photo, but it appears to be a newer photo than the other bakery picture. It looks like Frank at this point owned a grocery store as well as the N.Y. Bakery, in a bigger storefront than before. The five little girls all lined up out front were the Allmaras girls, Ida, Elsie, Rosie, Mary and Agnes. Frank is standing beside his door. The other man standing on the right might be from the wallpaper store or the plumber? The location was New Rockford, North Dakota. The date would have been before 1918, as Rosie died during the 1918 flu epidemic.
The original photo is 5"x7" mounted on an 8"x10" matboard. There are no studio marks.
