Photos Related to Hilda Krantz's 1930 Trip

My mother, Hilda Krantz Beitel, and my Grandmother, Theresa Ahl Krantz, took a trip to Canada to visit their relatives in the summer of 1930. They rode the train from Salem, Oregon, to Primate, Saskatchewan, and back. This page contains a couple of pictures that provide additional reference for the diary which Mom kept while on the journey. The family picture of the Krantz children, while it was taken two years later, gives a better idea of how old the otheres were at the time of the trip. The picture of Hilda and her school children gives extra meaning to her position in life at the time.

The Krantz Children

Two years later, here Mom is back at home in Jordan with the rest of her siblings. From left to right they are: Hilda (Mom), Ann, Clem, Norbert and George. George's family still lives in this house today.

On the back, Mom wrote "1932".

The original photograph is 2.75 inches by 4.25 inches.

Mom's First School

Sept. 5, 1930, Mom mentions getting a letter "from Mrs. Short" as they prepare to go home. Mrs. Short was the mother of most of Mom's students at the time. This is a photo of Mom with her students. They comprised the whole student body of the one room schoolhouse on McCully Mt, near Lyons, Oregon. Mom was the only teacher, and janitor as well.

They are: (left to right) a Short daughter, a Short son, Hilda (Mom), an Allan boy and another Short boy. (Identification provided at a much later date by Auntie Ann, Mom's sister.)

Original photo is 3.5 inches by 5.75 inches.
